"While walking through the booths of a Guatemalan street market, I came across these two beautiful little girls sitting by a doorway. I was in Guatemala on a medical mission and fellin love with the country".

The Fluff
Port Au Prince, Haiti 2007
"I remember saying 'these babies need food and shelter; there isn't time for cooing, cuddling, and fluff.' Haiti showed me that the 'fluff' is just as important. The hospital is under-staffed, under-funded, and under-everything! Consequently, besides being fed and bathed the babies have no real human contact. When I first saw this little girl from across the room she was just lying in her bed, staring up at the ceiling. When she felt me close she quickly turned on her stomach, looked, and then latched on. She needed someone to carry her. She might have had a full belly, but she was still starving".

Giving Alms
Antigua, Guatemala 2007
"Last day in Guatemala, I walked by this man on the corner of a busy intersection. Asking for alms with no words, he simply extended his arms with his eyes closed as to remove the pressure and guilt in order for people to simply give from their hearts".

Potts
Port Au Prince, Haiti 2007
"Valance has spinal Tuberculosis (Pott's Disease). He is constantly afraid; not of the doctor, not of the injections…but of having to stand up. His father carries him into the hospital and, to my untrained eye, he seems fine. When his father sets him down to stand on his own, he scream is deafening. I did not understand what had just happened, why he was screaming, and what kind of pain could just appear with such force. The doctors explained that the infection was aggravating his spinal nerves and when he stood up the pain was unbearable. So while many children are apprehensive to climb into a stranger's arms. Valance was not. He was eager and desperate for anyone's embrace".

Nature's Sculpture
Nicaragua 2007
"I was fascinated with the rocks at the beach shoreline when my classmates and I went to the Pacific coast of Nicaragua for half-day this past summer. How the water created this unique texture of the rocks and holes, which contain miniature pools of life, inspired me to take this picture".

La Finca Es La Vida - The Farm is Life
Guatemala 2007
This picture was taken during a descending hike from Fuentes Georginas natural hot springs to the Mayan pueblo of Zunil.
"The precision in which the Guatemalan community cares for this land is astounding. In this culture, survival depends on the fertility of the soil, and it is with great dignity that every generation of a family contributes to the preservation of the crops. Even on a cloudy day, the lush landscape was beautiful".
